A British man is making his way through the westernmost point of the U.S. to the easternmost part, all roughly 6,000 miles, by foot.

Jamie Mcdonald is running by himself but not for himself. He’s raising money for children in hospitals.

With three wheels, two feet, and a one year American visa, adventure man is running from Washington state all the way to Maine. “I should be adventure idiot really,” he joked.

Mcdonald spent the first nine years of his life in and out of a hospital. “I used to have a rare condition called syringomyelia where sometimes I couldn’t move my legs,” he said. But boy are those legs moving now.

“I’ve ran 4,000 miles to get to Panama City,” he said. He said it’s time to give back to kids who are still in hospitals. In eight months, he’s raised more than $100,000 to help families pay their children’s medical bills. “No matter what i just keep running until I get to the end.”

Along the way, he’s found running partners and experienced Hurricane Michael first hand.

“We have to take care of our kids, and it’s amazing that he’s doing that,” Joe Edgecome, a panama city resident and runner who’s been following Adventure Man’s travels.

There have been obstacles. “I’ve had about 30 injuries. I’ve had to run barefoot to kind of run the injuries out.”

However, nothing can stop Adventure Man now.

“I want to show people and the kids in the hospitals that they can do this as well and we can overcome anything,” he said.
