Rare Plant Fair - Quenington

Quenington

Sunday 19th April 2020

Venue: The Old Rectory, Quenington, Nr Cirencester GL7 5BN

The beautiful gardens at The Old Rectory, Quenington will play host to a Rare Plant Fair on Sunday, April 19th 2020 in support of the charity Cobalt Health. This Grade II listed OldRectory with its organic garden has been developed over the past 40 years and is in a very tranquil setting on the banks of a mill race, with the River Coln running through the gardens. The wooden bridge that spans the river encapsulates the quirky spirit of fun, creativity and history that comes together at Quenington. The history of the site probably stretches back to the 12th century, when the Knights Hospitaller had a preceptory in the village.

Esme Bradburne, a former head gardener, who read Agriculture at Oxford, was one of the original founder members of the Soil Association. The garden is still run completely on organic lines and Esme’s work was seminal in creating much of the planting that we see today. Although the present layout goes back to 1928 when the Old Rectory was bought from the church.

There are herbaceous borders, mature trees, pool and a bog garden, as well as the large vegetable garden. The garden contains a permanent sculpture display.

All our events are held in beautiful and prestigious gardens, each with its own unique character, from those with histories stretching back centuries to more modern gardens created in recent years. A day out at one of our fairs a really enjoyable and inspiring experience for everyone, whether a novice or experienced gardener.

The nurseries that attend our Fairs are carefully selected to ensure that they are genuine growers who produce most or all of the plants that they sell themselves. We try offer the widest possible range of plants to our visitors, including perennials, shrubs and trees, alpines, bulbs and exotic plants, and all of our nursery owners are experts in the plants that they grow. They are all always happy to offer all the advice that you need to select and grow the right plants for your garden.

The fair will be open from 11am to 4pm, and adult entry, which includes entry to both the fair and garden costs just £5.00. Homemade refreshments are available. A proportion of the proceeds will be donated to Cobalt, which provides advanced diagnostic faciilties for those with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Full details, including a list of the nurseries attending the event, can be found on the link below.
