Martin James Bartlett

An evening of great piano music from Martin James Bartlett (known to some of you from his private recital at the home of our President last year).  Since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2014, Martin James Bartlett has developed an impressive international career, performing in China, Japan and Spain as well as appearing with many of the UK’s leading orchestras.  His Goods Shed programme includes pieces from his debut recording Life and Death, recently released by Warner Classics, which received five star reviews in the BBC Music Magazine and The Times, which described it as “a thrillingly accomplished album”. The programme includes:  Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Anderson, Scriabin, Schuman, Granados, Wagner, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin.

Jess Gillam

After performing at the prestigious Last Night of the Proms in 2018 and having her performance described as “the indisputable highlight” by BBC News, Jess continues to grow her international career. This season, she will perform at the Last Night of the BBC Proms Japan, with the Minnesota Orchestra, at the Lucerne Festival, with Deutsches Symphony Orchester Berlin, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. She also continues to perform throughout the UK in recital as well as with the Hallé, Manchester Camerata and the European Union Chamber Orchestra.

Jonathan Cohen and Arcangelo

The Festival's own Artistic Director Jonathan Cohen will be appearing at the Goods Shed with a group of colleagues from his orchestra 'Arcangelo' - not to be missed!  In particular watch out for Thomas Dunford who - spoiler alert -  you may be seeing again at the Tetbury Music Festival in October.   They will perform music for instruments by Bach and his contemporaries and will feature Arcangelo’s internationally-renowned chamber soloists:  Jonathan Cohen, Thomas Dunford, Sophie Gent and Jonathan Manson.

Jonathan Cohen has forged a remarkable career as a conductor, cellist and keyboardist. He is Artistic Director of Arcangelo, Music Director of Les Violons du Roy, Artistic Partner of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and, of course,  Artistic Director of Tetbury Music Festival.

The Derek Paravicini Quarte

London Haydn Quartet

Wotton Concert Series Spring Concert

Saturday 29th February 2020

19.30 pm

Venue: St Martin's Parish Church, North Nibley

The concert will feature the distinguished international artists Susanna Fairbairn and James Sherlock performing a piano and song recital of Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, Gustav Mahler's Rückert-Lieder and Claude Debussy's colourful and florid Ariettes Oubliées to settings of Verlaine's poems. The programme contains some of the finest and most moving songs in the repertoire. Both Susanna and James are known to the WCS audiences - Susanna sang Handel and James played the organ in one of the WCS concerts a couple of years ago.
