“The Quest for Beauty” presents examples of ancient art and architecture designed to elevate and enhance the human experience. Where ‘beauty’ is considered to be a quality that falls between logic and emotion and where the best examples of ‘beauty’ impact perception and emotions on multiple levels. The ‘Quest ‘ represents the pathways to ‘beauty’ explored by artists and architects of the Neolithic period through Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, the early years of Islam and the European Renaissance through to the present. Roger’s goal is to share what he knows about the design methods and objectives of the ‘Quest’ –  so that today’s artists and architects can combine the concepts with new materials, new technologies and new ideas to meet the art, design and architectural challenges of the future.

Roger Burrows’ latest book, “3D Thinking in Design and Architecture from Antiquity to the Future,” published by Thames and Hudson Ltd., follows the development of ‘Visual Logic’ through time, from Neolithic petroglyphs and the ancient River Cultures, through the geometries of the Pythagoreans, the Celts and early Islam – all the way to the present and to a possible future.

Roger Burrows is a technology developer, a mathematician and an inventor. His many books include “The Crystal Cave,” with Sir Roger Penrose and the “Altair Design” book series with Dr. Ensor Holiday. He has lectured in Europe, the USA, and in the UK – most recently in Stockholm at the Bridges 2018 conference and at the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco. He was raised in Worcestershire and attended the Universities of Sussex and London. Roger has travelled extensively spending time in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, the USA, China, Australia and Southern Asia. He now lives in the mountains of Park City, Utah, USA with his wife Lauren.
