Meet our Matchday Disability Liaison Officer Dave Hardy

Cheltenham

Dave Hardy

As part of Level Playing Field’s Unite for Access campaign, we sat down with Dave Hardy, Cheltenham Town’s Matchday Disability Liaison Officer.

Dave Hardy has been involved with Cheltenham Town Football Club since 1991, working on the gate until 1998.

The Club’s former Safety Officer then reached out asking if he could help provide assistance to disabled supporters in a volunteer capacity.

“I became someone they could call on to talk with and support people with disabilities, especially as a disabled supporter myself,” Dave explained.

“I turned up every season. The staff on the gates knew me and would send supporters my way, and I helped in any way I could.”

How the SLO team has evolved:

Since then, Dave has worked on matchdays in a voluntary capacity supporting spectators with disabilities.

When Jenny Hancock became the Club’s Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) in the 2020/2021 season, it helped enhance his role, and he’s now worked as part of the SLO team for the past three and half seasons.

Dave also volunteers at Lillian Faithful Care’s Royal Court care home in Cheltenham and won the Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2023 GCPA Care Awards for his work there.

“I love meeting people, and the nature of what I’ve done in my career, I like to give back,” he shared.

“But most of all, I like being part of a professional football club. It gives me a buzz, and it makes me proud to say that I work for Cheltenham Town.”

In recent years, Dave has seen the SLO team expand with Chris Russell joining the team in January 2022 as a matchday representative.
