Cheltenham Town Football Club are delighted to confirm that Michael Flynn has become our new first team manager.

Following last week's announcement that Michael had agreed to take on the role, the 43-year-old has now completed the signing of a two-year-contract at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium and assumed his new position from June 1st.

After an interview process and subsequent meeting last Monday, Michael was identified as the Club’s number one target and was offered the position.

Michael is already working hard alongside recently appointed Director of Football Gary Johnson, identifying and talking to targets to rebuild our squad ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Flynn enjoyed 19 years as a player for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Gillingham and Bradford City before turning to management at the end of his career whilst at boyhood club Newport County.

It was at Rodney Parade where he had his first opportunity. A four-and-a-half-year spell which included a dramatic final day survival, two League Two Play-Off Finals and a number of memorable FA Cup ties, most notably a 1-1 draw with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.

He has since been in charge of Walsall and most recently Swindon Town where he departed back in January.

Details surrounding Michael’s coaching staff and backroom team will be finalized and announced in due course.

Upon joining the Club, Flynn said:

“I'm really excited. I've had a good rest after leaving Swindon, I'm rejuvenated, refreshed and ready to get back on the saddle as they say.

"This is a Club that I'm really looking forward to managing. It's going to be about stabilising, getting everyone to believe again and I'm sure we'll give it a right good go.”

Town chairman David Bloxham added:

“We are delighted to have agreed terms with Michael and have him on board.

“He is familiar with our Club from his time at Newport County .He has extensive experience if League 2 which was an important factor in our decision to appoint him.

”The board and other staff at the Club are looking forward to welcoming and working with Michael over the coming seasons.”
