Review: The Ox Cheltenham

Cheltenham

The Ox is situated in the heart of Cheltenham Town Centre, offering a range of the best steaks and cocktails in town.

The www.glos.info team were invited by lifestyle blogger Sarah Newland to The Ox’s new autumn menu launch.

The evening started with a taste of the new autumnal cocktails. The drinks were presented beautifully and offered up with a suggested pairing option from the food menu. I had the chance to try the ‘Autumn Cocktail’, which was bursting with warm, crisp autumnal flavours.

After taking a seat in the beautifully decorated dining area, we were greeted by the maitre d', who gave us a brief introduction to the amazing delicacies we were about to try.

Each dish from the starter menu was cooked to perfection and presented to a high standard. My personal favourites included the Josper roasted mushrooms on sourdough toast and the Hickory ribs. With each sample, we were able to experience some amazing tastes and textures that I wouldn’t necessarily have chosen.

A debatable extra included marmite butter served with crusty bread. Though hestitant, this unique flavour in fact converted many of the guests to marmite lovers.

Now for the main event... The Steaks!

The quality of each steak was top-notch with the head chef cooking each cut to a favourable medium-rare.  The T-bone, Sirloin and Fillet steak were all seasoned well and delicious on the pallet. Each steak complimented by side orders of triple-cooked chips, skinny fries, house salad and macaroni cheese. A choice of vegetarian salads plus a delightful pan-fried cod were also brought to the table.

More treats were in store for us when slices of the moist Carrot and Walnut and Coconut Cake bar reached our table.  Light and heavenly flavours of homemade ice-creams and sorbets were the ideal way to end our taste journey.

The Ox have a new Christmas menu which you can check out on their website.

From our experience of The Ox Cheltenham, we would recommend this restaurant to any steak fanatic. The pricing of the restaurant matches the quality of the food and the wide range of drinks. All of the staff were very welcoming and friendly, attending to everyone's requests professionally and promptly. The Ox is perfect for any occasion offering delicious food and providing a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

The Ox also offers a burger and a beer deal every Wednesday. A midweek treat you cannot resist!
