The Author
Chris Chatterton is a former secondary school teacher with a degree in History and English Literature. He is currently the Mayor of Gloucester and as such can offer a unique perspective on the history of the city. He is the holder of a role that dates back to at least 1199 and has access to a range of source material that will greatly enhance the history of the city. He is also an amateur historian who gives talks and presentations on the history of the area. He sits on the Cathedral Council and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Soldiers of Gloucester Museum. He lives in Quedgeley, Gloucester.
The Book
This is the story of all those from Gloucestershire who have served their country,
including the history of the Glosters and their predecessor regiments.
The Soldiers of Gloucester Museum in the city's historic docks contains a
unique collection of objects spanning the centuries. In this book, the
museum's director has selected a hundred key objects from the collection,
and describes their place in the military history of the county and country.
From uniforms worn in battle against Napoleon to beautiful paintings of the
Indian Raj and moving artefacts from the two World Wars, and the Glosters'
famous role in Korea, the book tells the fascinating stories behind the
objects, to shed a unique light on the past in this richly illustrated book.
This is a perfect introduction to the proud and important history of
Gloucestershire's soldiers.
