Cheltenham Remembers RAF Centenary exhibition at the Jet Age Museum
· Weekends and bank holidays, 10am to 4pm, 31 March to 22 April (11am-4pm on 31 March)
As part of the ‘Cheltenham Remembers’ programme, the Jet Age Museum at Staverton will host a free exhibition on behalf of the Cheltenham branch of the Royal Air Forces Association, to commemorate the formation of the Royal Air Force in 1918, together with the creation of the aircraft industry in Cheltenham.
The exhibition will include a ¾ scale SE5a model WW1 fighter plane, a replica airfield workshop and an operational airfield tableau.
It will include memorabilia from the HH Martyn aircraft factory, RAF at Rendcomb and Flight Cadets in Cheltenham and contemporary RAF memorabilia.
Air Vice Marshal Tony Mason CB. CBE. DL and exhibition coordinator, says: “This is a unique opportunity to relive the events in Cheltenham in WW1 when the infant RAF arrived at the same time as the aircraft industry was established. Visitors can also see hitherto top secret GCHQ items associated with the RAF that have never before seen here. Admission is free and donations are welcome.”
