CONCOURSE: Art By Art Psychotherapists - Examined Expressions

Gloucester

Dates: 02 - 30/08/2017

Examined Expressions are a group of Art Psychotherapists who have come together to exhibit as artists. Whilst their artworks are not specifically about Art Psychotherapy, the artists’ profession informs the way they approach their art-making.  The exhibition showcases a diverse range of artistic styles including landscape, abstract and conceptually-orientated pieces.

Art Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as a primary form of communication. This can be particularly useful for expressing and exploring complicated experiences, feelings and ideas. Art Psychotherapists work with a wide range of clients with emotional, behavioural or mental health problems, learning or physical difficulties, life-limiting conditions, neurological conditions and physical illnesses.  Art Psychotherapy is a registered health profession, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council and represented by the British Association of Art Therapists. More information about Art Psychotherapy can be found at www.baat.org.

The artists are: Carl Arroyo, Ali Coles, Hilary Forbes, Justine Glynne Jones, Fiona Harrison, Suzanne Jones, Harriet Cookson, Louise Luscombe, Helen McGuire, Gill Horne, Saira Todd and Hazel Wilson. Art Psychotherapists usually have an arts degree as well as postgraduate training in Art Psychotherapy, and personal art-making is an important part of their on-going professional development.
