Forest and Rivers Artists Open Up in October
Following on from a successful inaugural show in July, artists and makers from the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and Severnside have come together in their first Open Studios event taking place between October 7 and October 15.
Over 35 artists, makers and galleries will offer visitors the opportunity to see the wealth of creativity that abounds throughout the area and view the art and craft being produced.
farOpen Chair Chris Waygood said: “This is such an exciting event for us. The area offers so much inspiration for creativity and we have a wealth of talent living and working here. So many artists have come together to show their work and support the far0pen organisation and I am sure there is something for everyone to see including fine art, sculpture, jewellery, textiles and photography.”
As well as free entry to individual studios and galleries, the launch of the artist-led farOpen organisation will take place at two major exhibitions at Newland Village Hall, Newland and at The Secret Gallery, Newent and will run throughout the Open Studios event. Both shows will open on Friday, October 6 from 6.30pm until 9.00pm and will feature work by a range of talented far0pen artists and makers.
Nikki Moore, a professional wildlife and animal artist and designer, was thrilled to open her Pigsty Studio based at Hawkwell, Drybrook. “ It can be a really isolating existence working as an artist and an opportunity to share our work with the public is a great opportunity for all of us.”
Artists will be promoting the event at the Forest Showcase on October 1 at Speech House and will have information including their brochure and trail map which will guide the visitor through the range of open studios and galleries with their opening times. The brochure is also available online and at a variety of local outlets. Look out for the far0pen banners and flags advertising the event.
