‘Quintessential Stroud landscape’ wins the Stroud district tourism photography competition

Stroud District Council’s tourism team are delighted to announce the winners of their first photography competition.

Congratulations go to winner George Ryske for his photograph `Coaley Peak over Severn Vale’. The two runners up are Steve Daniels with the photo ‘Randwick Woods’ and John Pettitt who submitted ‘Cyclists at the top of Selsley Common’.

The competition judges commented that George Ryske’s winning image was:

A quintessential Stroud district landscape, with nice lighting and composition”. They added that it was “an atmospheric, thoughtfully taken and composed image.

The competition attracted a high standard of entries, and the tourism team have thanked everyone who entered.

The panel of judges included award-winning photographer Nick Turner, and photographers Kel Portman and Alexander Caminada. Head judge Nick said:

“It really is inspiring to see our beautiful countryside through the competitors’ eyes; the standard has been very high. Choosing a winner has not been an easy task”.

The winning entry and two runners up will be featured on the home page of www.visithecotswolds.org.uk and printed and displayed at the Malthouse Bar & Kitchen at Salmon Springs, Stroud www.stroudmalthouse.com

The first prize is a half-day photography tutorial session courtesy of Clifton Cameras, dinner for two in a local restaurant and a signed book by Nick Turner.

Shirley Wood, tourism officer at Stroud District Council said:

We’re delighted with the response and quality of images we have received. We have some stunning images that give different perspectives on our beautiful area enabling us to continue to promote the area as a wonderful place to visit, live, work and invest in”.

The tourism team will be promoting the winning photograph on their Facebook (www.facebook.com/discoverstroud) and Twitter pages (www.facebook.com/discoverstroud) using the hashtag #strouddistrictphotocomp
