Loud and Clear Contemporary glass at New Brewery Arts
31st August to 25th October 2019
Open Mon-Sat 9.00 am to 17.00 pm, Sun 10.00 am to 16.00 pm
Loud and Clear, our next exhibition at New Brewery Arts, brings a selection of striking work challenging established notions of what can be fashioned from glass.
National Glass Centre have long-standing relationships with many of the artists whose creativity and skill is shown here in this exhibition and it is a great privilege for New Brewery Arts to have the opportunity to present this collection of glass selected by the National Glass Centre.
Located in Sunderland, North-East England, National Glass Centre celebrates a relationship with glass dating back to AD674 when Benedict Biscop brought glaziers from Gaul to the area to create the first known coloured glass window in the country. Moving through the centuries, Sunderland became home to numerous bottle works and glass making companies. Alongside the production of industrial glass, Sunderland has played a major role in supporting artists working in glass and National Glass Centre’s exhibition, residency and study programmes are the focus of this work. Over the last five years National Glass Centre has worked with some of the finest contemporary, British based glass artists. This exhibition presents work by a selection of these artists.
Scott Benefield, Heike Brachlow, Effie Burns, James Devereux, Erin Dickson, Choi Keeryong, Monette Larson, James Maskrey, Joanne Mitchell, Helen Pailing, Jeffrey Sarmiento, Ayako Tani, Angela Thwaites, Emma Woffenden and Jeff Zimmer.
