Cotswold Taste puts Six Key Questions to General Election candidates

Tuesday 3rd December 2019

19.00 - 21.00 pm

Venue: Stroud Brewery, London Road, Brimscombe, Stroud GL5 2BY

Cotswold Taste has called the shots with a short, sharp questionnaire to General Election candidates about six key concerns affecting both the Cotswolds region and the UK, relating to the environment, climate change, and food and drink.

A total of 48 candidates across the region have been given until 27 November to respond. Their answers will be released in advance of the General Election due to be held on 12th December 2019.

The questions cover the following areas:

  • Climate change
  • Creating jobs for young people, particularly in agri-food and tourism
  • Pub closure impacts on communities
  • Water management issues
  • Food safety
  • Reducing carbon footprints

(The full wording of the questions is attached to this release in ‘Notes for Editors’).

A Public Meeting is being planned, co-hosted by long-standing Cotswold Taste member Stroud Brewery, on Tuesday 3 December 2019, 7.00-9.00pm, at which candidates will be invited to make presentations on the environment and answer questions from the electorate.

Nick Waloff, Executive Chair of Cotswold Taste, said:

"These are all vital issues affecting the quality of our lives in many ways. How our politicians are going to relate to them and address them should be a matter of real concern to all of us. ‘Cotswold Taste wants to see a greater focus on addressing the future, as well as resolving Brexit one way or another."

"We are facing a bleak future indeed, if we ignore these issues."

Stroud Brewery has recently brewed a special organic pale ale, ‘X-Appeal’ Ballot Box Beer, to draw attention to the need to encourage prospective voters to register for the election.

"We want to encourage new voters to engage in a democratic decision that will have a profound impact on the rest of their lives” ‚Äč says Greg Pilley, Managing Director of Stroud Brewery.
