78th Stroud Arts Festival

Stroud

Dates: 19th - 27th October 2024

Welcome to the 78th Stroud Festival

Starting this year’s festival at Lansdown Hall we have the darkly gothic drama, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Stratford Productions, on Saturday 19th October, followed by silent horror movie The Phantom of the Opera with live music by harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry on the Sunday 20th. This first weekend at Lansdown Hall brings us classic storytelling to thrill us and chill us as the nights draw in.

Returning by popular demand to The Sub Rooms on Thursday 24th at 7.30pm, The Carducci Quartet & The Dave Ayre Trio with writer Anthony Burton bring us Re-connected – another specially conceived blend of musical styles and poetry.

The final weekend transports us to another time on Saturday 26th, with Bs & Bees from the trio ZAREK playing baroque music as it would have been heard by the audience of the day, on period instruments, in the splendid acoustic setting of St. Laurence Church.

The final Sunday of the festival brings us not just one but two events – we welcome the return of the afternoon relaxed performances of Opera is for Everyone with our internationally renowned performers creating a story-based show for all those who could not normally participate, followed by the season finale – An Evening at the Opera – a recital filled with your favourite arias with singers Abigail Sudbury, Alistair Sutherland, Naomi Kilby and our ensemble of musicians led by Dave Ayre.
