Plastic-Free Christmas Fayre

8th & 9th December 2018

Plastic-Free Christmas Fayre

Join us for a Christmas Fayre with an ethical, sustainable and plastic-free focus!

We’ll be joined by a lovely selection of local businesses offering alternative Christmas gifts, decorations and wrapping.

The Plastic-Free Christmas Fayre is a collaboration between The Motherhood Society and Miscellany Morss and aims to promote a more ethical and sustainable approach to Christmas. Since attending a sustainable parenting event in the Summer, The Motherhood Society have been working hard to reduce the amount of plastic waste produced at their events and at home and aim to inspire other families to do the same.

It is predicted that more than 114,000 tonnes of plastic waste will be thrown away and not recycled in the UK this Christmas. In 2017 the total waste created at Christmas from food and drink, packaging, wrapping, paper, cards, Christmas trees and other rubbish exceeded 5 million tonnes.

The Plastic-Free Christmas Fayre on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December at the Bath Road Pop-up Shop (252 Bath Road) will be packed to the brim with local brands with an ethical, sustainable or plastic-free focus. There will be handmade gifts, decorations, clothing and wrapping - all made locally. By shopping at this pop-up event, customers will not only be supporting small and local businesses but also hopefully reducing the amount of plastic acquired and given this Christmas.

The event is also a chance to raise money for an important environmental charity, The Women’s Environmental Network. Many ethical and sustainable brands, both local and further afield are donating items for a plastic-free Christmas Hamper to be raffled during the event. All funds raised from raffle tickets will be going directly to WEN.

As well as lots of lovely items to buy, there will also be an ornament swap. Recycling and reusing are important steps in reducing waste. Bring along any Christmas decorations that you no longer use, drop them off at the Pop-Up and they might make their way onto someone else’s tree this Christmas.

The Plastic-Free Christmas Fayre will be open 9am - 5pm on Saturday 8th December and 10am - 4pm on Sunday 9th December in the Pop-Up Shop at Cheltenham Market, 252 Bath Road.

Free entry.
