Summer holidays

Cheltenham

The science centre will be open between 10am and 4pm from Tuesday 23rd July until Saturday 31st August 2019. (Closed on Sundays and Mondays)

Tuesdays: Guest Workshops

23rd July - To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the lunar landings, we are exploring the Space Race by learning Russian with Babel Babes and discovering Sochi, one of Cheltenham's twin towns (10:00-12:30). The science centre will be open until 4pm.

30th July - The Underwater Princess from Everlasting Entertainment will be visiting from 10am-12pm and 1:30-2:30 to help us explore the oceans. These activities will be suitable for younger children (3-7 years). Glitter tattoos and mini face paints will be available at an additional charge. The science centre will be open from 10am until 4pm.

6th August - Engineer and test paper aeroplanes with volunteers from the Jet Age Museum.

20th August - try some cool water experiments with Anna from the Canal and River Trust.

Wednesdays: Lunar lander competition

Throughout the summer holidays, you will have the chance to engineer a lunar lander from recycled materials. What special features will your design include? You will be able to take your model home once it has been photographed ready for the entries to be judged in September. We will have some materials for you to use but if you can intercept any interesting rubbish before it goes in the recycling, bring it with you.

Thursdays: drop-in STEM club

At each session you can work with your child to complete a challenge towards a CREST Star (age 5-7) or CREST SuperStar (7-11) award. Once your child completes 8 challenges, they will get a certificate and a badge. During term-time, our drop-in STEM club is on the 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month (10am-4pm) and the following Friday afternoon (2pm-5pm) so there are plenty of opportunities to get all 8 stickers.

25th July - worms: help us set up our wormery - come back later in the summer to see how it has changed

1st August - slime: another opportunity to explore polymers and create your own slime to take home.

8th August - balloon cars: how far will you car travel?

15th August - rockets: use simple chemical reactions to power a popper rocket.

22nd August - flowers: Princess Beauty from Everlasting Entertainment will be visiting from 10am-12pm and 1:30-2:30 to help us investigate flowers. These activities will be suitable for younger children (3-7 years). Glitter tattoos and mini face paints will be available at an additional charge. The science centre will be open from 10am until 4pm.

29th August - catapults: make a catapult that you can take home - if your grown-up says it is ok!

Fridays: Lego club

Build something out of Lego and then programme it to solve a problem.

Saturdays: Royal Society Young People's Book Prize

Help the Royal Society decide which is this year's best science book for young people. We have really enjoyed taking part in #youngscibooks previously. You can find out more about this year's shortlist here.

Bugatti Trust

We will be returning for our third visit to the Bugatti Trust on the weekend of 3rd and 4th August 2019. There is an additional charge to visit the Prescott Hill Climb. You can see more of what we have done previously here.
