Under Milk Wood - rehearsed play reading
Gloucester
Dates: 01/03/2025 - 7:30pm
Venue: The Folk of Gloucester, 99-103 Westgate Street
“To begin at the beginning: It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobblestreets silent and the hunched, courters’-and-rabbits’ wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboatbobbing sea.”
In celebration of St David’s Day, Spaniel in the Works Theatre Company will be performing the 1954 Dylan Thomas play, Under Milk Wood. In the spirit of its original radio format, the play will take the form of a rehearsed reading, allowing the words to take centre stage. The show features a cast of local actors including John Bassett, Barnaby Eaton-Jones and Paul Southcott.
Under Milk Wood centres around the inhabitants of the fictional small Welsh fishing town, Llareggub (“buggerall” spelled backwards). Through Thomas’ idiosyncratic and lyrical language, we gain access to the inner thoughts and eyebrow-raising behaviours of a cast of unusual characters.
The cafe and bar will be open for the duration of the event.
