Join over a hundred of Britain’s top historians and authors for compelling talks and controversial debates at Gloucester’s magical Blackfriars Priory.

Former Prime Minister Theresa May, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, BBC War Reporter Jeremy Bowen and Countdown’s Susie Dent are amongst the top authors and historians at this year’s Gloucester History Festival.

Former Prime Minister Theresa May explores power and politics, Michael Wood unlocks the Anglo-Saxons, Countdown star Susie Dent takes a hilarious look at weird and wonderful words, Jeremy Bowen journeys across the Middle East, Tracy Borman sheds new light on Elizabeth I, Tom Holland takes us to Ancient Rome, Alison Weir uncovers Henry VIII and Gary Younge shares Dispatches from The Black Diaspora. James Naughtie delves into 21st century American politics, Gavin Esler and Iain Dale put Westminster under the microscope and from Bridgerton to Call the Midwife, get behind the scenes of TV’s great historical dramas.

Celebrations start with Gloucester Day on Saturday 2 September whilst Heritage Open Days from 8 - 10 September throws open the doors of the City’s magnificent historic buildings with free entry to all.
