Girls Football & PL Fans Fund

Today is the first day of the EFL Week Of Action for the 2024/25 season. As we celebrate the work done by all 72 EFL clubs in their communities, we’ll be taking a closer look at what the football Club and the Community Trust do to have a positive impact on Cheltenham and the wider Gloucestershire region.

We kick-off the week by looking at the brilliant work done by our community trust to encourage more women and girls to not only take part in football but to attend more Cheltenham Town matches at the EV Charger Points Stadium.

All thanks to the Premier League Fans Fund initiative, the trust have spent the last year hard at work to increase women and girls’ participation in the game. And the stats and figures since then have been incredible.

The trust have engaged with over 850 women and girls from different backgrounds, ethnicities and communities since it started, going into over 25 schools as well visiting colleges and a university.

Just shy of 80 unique sessions have been put on alongside eight matchday events with around 450 tickets having been given out for Cheltenham Town fixtures.

Speaking when the project first began, Community Coach Izzy Cook who runs the sessions said:

“It's so important for us as a community trust.

“Having the platform that we do, we have a really important role to enable women and girls to play and attend more sport.”

The project has been a real success across the board and will hopefully be continuing, as the trust continue to play a big part in the growth of the women’s game.
