From Setbacks to Triumph: The Inspiring Journey of Billy the Tiler

Cheltenham

At "Billy the Tiler", our story isn’t just about tiling; it’s about resilience, determination, and the power of never giving up.
Like many small businesses, we’ve faced our share of challenges, but what makes our journey unique is the strength we found when life threw the unimaginable our way.

Just as our business was thriving, we suddenly lost several key subcontractors, leading to the loss of important contracts. As the pressure mounted, so did the stress, and we found ourselves facing both business and personal challenges we weren’t prepared for.
Then, in February 2024, life took a devastating turn: Arkadiusz (known as Billy), the heart of "Billy the Tiler", suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest at home while having lunch.
His heart stopped without warning, and in that crucial moment, with luck, he wasn't on his own. His partner, Marzena, acted quickly, performing CPR while on the phone with the ambulance.

That immediate response saved Arkadiusz’s life, and it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of CPR training.
He was placed in a medically induced coma for four days and spent weeks in the hospital recovering. Our focus shifted from keeping the business afloat to simply keeping hope alive, and on survival mode.

But Arkadiusz’s recovery is a testament to the power of determination. Just a few months later, he not only returned to work, but together they climbed Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, as part of his recovery. And in an incredible show of resilience, Arkadiusz completed a 50km run just six months after leaving the hospital.

"From a hospital bed to a mountain summit and a 50km run, this is what determination to live looks like. Never give up on your dreams, and always keep moving forward."

We believe that these challenges have made us stronger, not just as business owners but as members of the community. Our journey is a reminder that setbacks don’t define us — it’s how we rise after those setbacks that truly matters.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is that CPR training should never be taken lightly. It’s a skill that can truly save a life when you least expect it. We encourage everyone to take CPR training seriously — it’s often available through workplaces, or organizations like St John Ambulance. If you’re able, we also encourage donations to St John Ambulance, as they provide critical life-saving training and support to communities across the UK.

Today, "Billy the Tiler" is not only back on track, but we’re more committed than ever to supporting those around us. We continue to build meaningful relationships with our clients, contractors, and the local business community.

In sharing our story, we hope to inspire others who may be facing their own struggles. Whether in business or in life, we want to remind people that no matter what challenges come your way, there is always a way forward. Resilience, positivity, and community are at the heart of everything we do.

We would like to thank to everyone who supported us during that difficult time!
A special thanks to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Community group on Facebook who has supported us emotionally when we needed it!
