Age UK Gloucestershire helps older people stay warm this wintertime.

Gloucestershire

During the coldest nights of the year so far, Age UK Gloucestershire has been able to provide warm packs to older people across the county, helping them to stay warmer at home.

Age UK Gloucestershire

Thanks to the generosity of funders, warm packs have been distributed to older people identified as being vulnerable with health issues and / or affected by fuel poverty due to the cost-of-living crisis. Packs included a flask and hot chocolate, fluffy draft excluder and radiator bleed key, room thermometer and electric throw to provide an efficient method of keeping a person warm, helping to reduce the health risks associated with living in a colder home. Recipients also received Age UK Gloucestershire’s Grapevine magazine which included a helpful section from Severn Wye Energy Agency on energy efficiency and how to stay warm at home.
Packs were received with great delight, especially where recipients have found themselves struggling to keep warm during some of the coldest nights where temperatures have dropped as low as minus 5 degrees.
Dr Mandy Nelson, Head of Operations for Age UK Gloucestershire said, “Our team pulled together swiftly to distribute packs to those who would benefit the most, as the winter temperatures plummeted. Recipients were most pleased with the heated throw and fluffy draft excluders.’’
With 40 packs distributed last week and a further 31 to go out this week, by the end of February Age UK Gloucestershire will have distributed over 200 warm packs to older people who are struggling with the cost of heating their home or are vulnerable health wise, so they can stay warmer for longer in their home.
