Volunteer for Sue Ryder's Treecycling scheme

Two years ago, we were first contacted to ask if we would help with Christmas Treecycling, and we thought this would be something we could do to help within our local community. It is a great initiative as it provides an easy way for households to dispose of their Christmas tree, raises much-needed funds for Sue Ryder, and helps the environment by repurposing the trees into chippings, some of which are used in the grounds of Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

It is an easy initiative for us to get involved in: we just need a van and two staff members available. Most of our dairy deliveries are done at night or in the early hours of the morning, so we have vehicles available during the day and willing staff to help!

Those who have been involved have enjoyed the opportunity to help a local and worthwhile cause. We let Sue Ryder know in advance which postcode areas we can cover and then we are provided with a list of addresses after Christmas to collect from. With good route planning, it doesn’t take too much time to collect them, and then we deliver the trees to the landscaping company, which is not too far away.

I would encourage other businesses to get involved if they can. It just takes a few hours of your time, and you only need a van and a couple of people. We have helped Sue Ryder in other ways over the years and it is important to us to do so. Many of our staff and their families or friends have been helped and supported by the wonderful work done by the charity. Raising funds will help the work continue and enable many more people to receive support when they are facing difficult times in life.
