Review: Cinderella
The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham
The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham has once again made the festive season all that bit more magical with their fun-filled family pantomime Cinderella.
This charming fairytale, directed by Nick Winston, had the audience giggling in their seats from the start.
‘Buttons’ played by the loveable Tweedy the Clown is Cinderella’s only trusted companion since her two step-sisters arrived in town.
With help from Buttons and Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, she makes it to the royal ball. However, when the clock strikes twelve the magic begins to disappear. Will Cinderella find true love or will her wicked step-sisters get their way and keep her locked up forever?
The story is cleverly narrated by comedian Miranda Hart and the interactive set continues to wow the audience throughout with its visual effects. Also, deserved praise for an imaginative wardrobe team who were able to create ingenious and flamboyant costumes for the ugly step-sisters and the rest of the cast.
Our junior reviewer Milly (aged 9) said the pantomime “was fun to watch and the characters were hilarious." Her favourite part involved Tweedy interrupting a romantic scene between Cinderella and the Prince “by cleaning whilst sliding on a skateboard and causing a power cut.”
Heidi (aged 7) loved Tweedy “and his funny pet iron” and “liked booing when the ugly step-sisters came on."
With the classic tale interwoven with slapstick, songs, innuendo and jokes for all ages, this is a fantastic treat for your family this Christmas. Tickets are selling fast so grab yours now from the Everyman website.
