A Christmas Carol by Grove Productions

Gloucester

Dates: 6th, 7th, 8th, 20th, 21st & 22nd December

Venue: St Mary de Crypt, Gloucester

Grove Productions presents the Charles Dickens Classic - A Christmas Carol.

St. Mary de Crypt is a fine late 15th Century Church situated in the centre of Gloucester. It is also the burial site of James ‘Jemmy’ Wood. Wood was famed for his ownership of the Gloucester Old Bank, and immense personal wealth, which earned him the title The Gloucester Miser. It has been suggested by many that Wood is the inspiration for the famously miserly Ebenezer Scrooge.

Extreme poverty is everywhere in Victorian London but one man walks through the frozen streets unaffected. More than that, taking advantage of the suffering of his fellow man. Ebeneezer Scrooge has no time for family, friends or charity as the miser grows rich and evermore alone. But death stalks Scrooge's steps as the ghost of his former partner warns him of his fate and more ghosts to come. Charles Dickens' seasonal classic is a tale of greed, poverty, and redemption set against the backdrop of Victorian London and soundtracked by familiar festive songs.

The performance will feature exciting and inventive theatrical techniques including puppetry, shadow work, and physical theatre as well as all of the beautiful prose and moving Christmas Carols you would expect from such a production. While being engaging and theatrical, the adaptation remains true to the source material making this piece not only a delight for literature enthusiasts, but makes it a must see for those studying the text at GCSE level.

Paul Avery returns to direct a cast consisting of; Corinna McDermott, Moa Myerson, Joseph Harradine, Alex Lake, Stephen Santouris, Daniel Bates, Jasmine Murphy, and Lauren Holland.

Suitable for all the family. Run time 2 hours.
