One of its most enduring legends centres on the tragic fate of a former landlord, Bill Clavers, who, in 1760, met a disastrous end during a robbery attempt that claimed the lives of his wife and infant son. According to lore, Clavers, under the influence of rum, confronted a midnight stagecoach, leading to a series of tragic events that left him haunted by the spirits of his loved ones.

Guests and staff have reported eerie phenomena, including the faint cries of a baby, sightings of a woman in period attire, and items mysteriously being thrown from the bar area.
